The 6.5 acre lake which is situated next to the accommodation, has been here since pre-Napoleonic times and is set within our private grounds, surrounded by fields and woodland. It is naturally spring fed providing high quality oxygenated water.

A dam sits along the western end of the lake where the water is at it's deepest, a maximum of 8m. You can fish in a designated swim along the dam.

At the east end there are two islands surrounded by streams which feed into the lake

The north bank (farthest from the accommodationbut still only a short walk) is flat providing easy access to the three main swims with purpose built platforms and huts providing shelter, storage and a place to sleep when night fishing. There are some other swims along this bank.

On the south side the bank slopes quite sharply, here there is one swim on top of the bank, right next to the accommodation and another in a clearing toward the more shallow end of the lake where, on summer days, fish bask protected by the exposed tree roots

You don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy this picturesque lake. The setting is beautiful and provides a peaceful place for bird/nature watching and if you fancy a walk the 1km track leads all the way around the lake.

Our private lake is for the use of our family, day & gite guests only, and we allow a maximum of 4 anglers at anyone time, meaning the bankside is never crowded and the lake doesn't get over fished.

No licences are required, night fishing is permitted and the five main swims have wooden huts providing shelter from the weather and to sleep in when night fishing, so no bivvies required.

The lake contains in the region of 70 quality carp including 3 or 4 wild carp (often mistaken for grass carp). The largest carp caught to date (2022 season) are in the high 40lbs region and with our current feeding regime these fish should be hitting the 50's by next season. 

There are also many tench, up to 5lbs, along with roach, rudd, specimen perch, a few pike and other small silver fish.

The wooden huts built around the lake can also be used for storage. 

We can arrange for exclusive use of the lake for your party during your stay for a small extra charge.

Hookbait, groundbait and rigs are available for purchase on site at very reasonable prices. Bed chairs and a baitboat are available to hire.

We have equipment available for hire and bait for sale and use on our lake. price list attached

Each set of tackle hired will include 3 rods, pod/rests, landing net, unhooking mat, weigh sling & scales.

The rods are 12ft/2.5lb test curve carp rods. Reels, bite alarms & end tackle are not included unless by special request.

You are of course free to bring along your own tackle. Maximum 3 rods per person, absolutely no barbed or micro barbed hooks and for spinning triple hooks must have the barbs flattened. Unhooking mats and landing nets other than those provided by us must be disinfected on site before use.

Also available for hire is our baitboat which vastly improves your ability to get in amongst the fish browsing in the margins under the overhanging trees.

There are wooden huts by the main swims which are large enough to sleep in and provide shelter from the weather so no need to bring bivvies. We do have bedchairs for hire.

This map of the lake is based upon satellite images and a sonar survey carried out in 2011.  It shows current 'pegs' and those of which can be accessed by wheel-chair.

It also shows reed-beds and areas with overhanging trees.
